Meet Dr. Thiessen
Dr. Thiessen's philosophy in dentistry has always been to treat every patient in his practice like family. He also believes in beginning each new day with a smile on his face, a song in his heart, and remembering to sprinkle every day with laughter since it truly is the best medicine!
Dr. Thiessen has been practicing dentistry in Victoria BC for 35 years and still considers it the greatest profession in the world. He loves dentistry mostly because of his patients! He feels a great sense of pride in the number of patients who entrust him with their oral health and allow him to be a part of their lives. He also loves his team. He feels honored having the privilege to work with each wonderful member of his team. Dr. Thiessen also enjoys dentistry's unique combination of the healing arts with cutting edge, state of the art technology. Every day at Aspen Dental is always different. There are new challenges with each case, and it's always satisfying for Dr. Thiessen when he finishes a treatment and sees his patient smile for the very first time.
Education
Dr. Thiessen remains deeply rooted in the community, and chose to locate his most recent practice of 13 years on Chatterton Drive near Claremont High School where he graduated, and met his wife and high school sweetheart Karen. After graduating from Claremont, Dr. Thiessen attended the University of Victoria where he achieved his Bachelor of Science degree. He continued his education at the University of British Columbia, graduating from the Faculty of Dentistry in 1978. He was a recipient of "The Most Outstanding Operative Dentistry" award.
Continuing Education
Dentistry provides incredible opportunities for advanced learning, and Dr. Thiessen takes advantage of advanced continuing education enabling Aspen Dental to provide the latest dental treatments and technology. Dr. Thiessen is an Invisalign certified provider. He has trained with the Hands on Training Institute of London, Ontario for implant surgery, bone grafting, sinus surgery, and implant prosthetics.
Outside of the practice…
Dr. Thiessen and his wife have experienced the joys of raising five children, and the excitement of having two grandchildren. Dr. Thiessen loves spending time with his family, and feels that having had the experience of raising his own children, he is better able to work with his young patients helping them overcome their anxieties and fears of dentistry.
When he is away from the practice, Dr. Thiessen divides his spare time between golfing and cycling in the summertime, and hockey and skiing/snowboarding in the wintertime. A true hockey fan, he once said that he would only give up dentistry for the chance to play for the Canucks.
Dr. Thiessen is also committed to serving the people of Central Baptist Church in downtown Victoria where he assumes a leadership role and exercises his gift in music. He has also served on the Board of Youth for Christ Victoria, and serves the homeless of his city by providing as needed emergency dental services on referral by several local street pastors.
